Sound Ambiguity 9

We are pleased to present to our readers the ninth volume in a series dedicated to the broadly understood concept of ambiguity in music—the result of the scholarly work of young researchers representing Polish music academies.

Just as the concept of the ambiguity of sound is rich in meaning, so too are the authors’ interests broad and diverse. In their essays, they combine a rich historical panorama with in-depth analyses of the compositional process and selected works, placing them within the categories of universalism and individualism; they address issues of intertextuality, reception, dialogue with tradition, intergenerational inspiration, and the creative reinterpretation of the musical canon, and they ground their reflections in diverse perspectives: aesthetic, philosophical, cultural, and ethnomusicological.

We hope that our publication will reveal to readers the wealth of forms, shades, and meanings that the art of sound can take on, that it will inspire further scholarly exploration, and that it will make both young students and music enthusiasts, as well as experienced researchers, aware that the world of sound surrounding them is constantly evolving and continually opening up new interpretive perspectives.
