1st International Double Bass Symposium
May 1-4, 2013

The 1st International Double Bass Symposium, organized by the Academy of Music in Wrocław, took place from May 1-4, 2013, with Dr. Irena Olkiewicz as artistic director. Approximately 100 young double bassists from across Poland, as well as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, China, and Mexico, participated. The Symposium featured lectures and presentations, as well as master classes. The symposium concluded with the Double Bass Personalities Competition, conducted in two age categories, during which young artists performed a piece of their choice before an international jury.

The Symposium's guests included distinguished professors: Thomas Martin (Great Britain), Yi Song (China), Thierry Barbe (France), Sonia Ray (Brazil), Klaus Trumpf (Germany), Miloslav Jelinek (Czech Republic), Miloslav Gajdos (Czech Republic), Irena Olkiewicz, Waldemar Tamowski, Czesław Ząbek, and Gerard Przybyła.
