About us

Dear Visitors,
I would like to warmly welcome you to the website of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. I hope you will treat this welcome as an invitation to get to know us and join us. I sincerely hope that among the various offerings available on this website, aimed at professional musicians, music students and anyone who would like to deepen their knowledge of music, develop a love of art or listen to a concert, you will find something that interests you. An important part of our mission, alongside the professional education of musicians, is to show everyone how much richer their lives can be when filled with music. We have been operating according to this principle for over seven decades, combining teaching, artistic and scientific research work into a harmonious whole. The history of the Academy dates back to 1948, and its years of existence have been marked by continuous development: from the ideas of Wrocław's pioneers, who, while rebuilding the city from ruins, instilled artistic life and and music education in the city, to the modest but beautiful premises on the outskirts of the city at that time, where they began working with the first cohort of future music students, to today's modern academic centre operating on a magnificent campus in the heart of the city.
Currently, nearly 700 students and doctoral candidates are studying at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, developing their talents and passions in first- and second-cycle studies and in the Doctoral School, in almost all musical specialisations, within seven fields of study and in over thirty areas, in Polish and English. We are constantly working to ensure that our students and doctoral students are educated in the best possible conditions and at the highest level. This is one of the reasons why we focus on internationalisation – we are systematically expanding our network of international contacts, giving students the opportunity to meet outstanding artists and scientists from around the world, as well as to complete part of their studies at foreign universities. The assessments obtained during regular visits by national and international accreditation committees consistently confirm the highest quality of education. In 2020, our university obtained the International Institutional Accreditation Certificate awarded by the Board of the European Accreditation Commission MusiQuE – Music Quality Enhancement. This achievement is all the more gratifying as the Wrocław Academy of Music is the first and, so far, the only art academy in Poland to be awarded this prestigious certificate. Every year, our Academy organises over four hundred artistic and scientific events, including international and national festivals, symphony concerts, chamber concerts, instrumental and vocal concerts, oratorio and cantata concerts, choral concerts, jazz concerts, concerts presenting the work of composers associated with the Academy, opera performances, symposia and scientific conferences, competitions, master classes, which reliably attract participants and observers from all over the world. We have bold plans for the future. We strive for excellence in all areas of our activity, i.e. in teaching, artistic and scientific research, as well as in organisational activities. We are therefore thinking about new areas of education and new spaces for action – about ever better, more efficient and effective service to society and musical culture, to people and to art.
I would therefore like to repeat my invitation – to young people, to seek inspiration on this website for their own artistic and scientific paths and to find their place at our University in first or second cycle studies or in the Doctoral School; to graduates of higher education institutions, to familiarise themselves with our postgraduate studies offer; to all those reading these words, to visit us and take a closer look at our proposals for spending time with music and knowledge about music. We want to be worthy of our beautiful Wrocław, which is not coincidentally called the City of Meetings. So let's meet at the Academy of Music; as you explore the 1000-year history of the capital of Lower Silesia, interesting exhibitions, historic and modern architecture, and charming green routes, please find time to visit our headquarters at Jana Pawła II Square for one of the many concerts in our comfortable and well-equipped Concert Hall, which is always open to you. Your presence at the Academy will be an honour and a joy for us, but also a motivation for the future. See you soon!
With respect and warm regards,
Prof. dr hab. Krystian Kiełb
Rector of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław
