Third day of competition auditions (29/11)
From November 26 to December 2, 2023, the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław hosted the first edition of the International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition. The competition brought together 19 young violinists from around the world, who, after passing the preliminary round, were invited to compete head-to-head and showcase their skills in three stages of the competition.
The young artists' performances were judged by a jury composed of renowned musicians and educators of international renown: Prof. Konstanty Andrzej Kulka (Jury Chair), Prof. Bartosz Bryła, Prof. Florin Croitoru, Dr. Paweł Jabłczyński, Prof. AMKL, and Prof. Jarosław Pietrzak. Dr. Magdalena Ziarkowska-Kołacka served as the jury secretary.
After exciting auditions and a thorough evaluation of the performances, the jury invited 10 violinists to the second stage of the competition. They were: Yuichiro Haruno (Japan), Park Hee Jin (Australia), Michał Krajewski (Poland), Milena Pioruńska (Poland), Karolina Podorska (Poland), Reika Sato (Japan), Steven Song (USA), Misaki Tanaka (Japan), Gaja Wilewska (Poland), Barbara Żołnierczyk (Poland). In the second stage, the participants performed:
- one of the Sonatas for violin and piano by the following composers: Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Edvard Grieg, Karol Szymanowski;
- any virtuoso piece for solo violin or with piano accompaniment, not exceeding 15 minutes;
- the first movement with a cadenza from one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Violin Concertos – KV 216, 218, 219.
The young violinists were accompanied by outstanding pianists: Dr. hab. Anna Rutkowska-Schock, prof. AMKL, Michał Francuski, Dr. hab. Julita Przybylska-Nowak, prof. AMKL, and Dr. Joanna Zathey.
