5th International Choral Conducting Tournament TOWARDS POLYPHONY
December 14-17, 2011
The 5th International Choral Conducting Tournament TOWARDS POLYPHONY took place on December 14-17, 2011. It was organized by the Department of Music Education in cooperation with the Wrocław City Hall. Honorary Patrons of the event were: Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Rafał Jurkowlaniec, Mayor of Wrocław Rafał Dutkiewicz, and His Magnificence the Rector of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, Prof. AM Dr. Hab. Krystian Kiełb, Consulate General of Germany in Wrocław, and Honorary Consul of Italy Monika Kwiatosz. Fifteen conductors representing various cities in Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, and Belarus competed for the title of laureate of the Tournament. The international jury (Prof. Zofia Urbanyi-Krasnodębska (Wrocław) - chairperson, Prof. Andrea Angelini (Rimini), Prof. Hans Jaskulsky (Bochum), Prof. Janis Lindenbergs (Riga), Prof. Ryszard Zimak (Warsaw) awarded the following prizes:
The FIRST PRIZE of PLN 12,000, funded by the Mayor of Wrocław, Rafał Dutkiewicz, went to Aleksander Humala (Minsk).
The SECOND PRIZE of PLN 6,000, funded by the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Rafał Jurkowlaniec, went to Rudolf Kreslins. (Riga)
THIRD PRIZE of PLN 3,000, funded by the Rector of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, Prof. Krystian Kiełb, PhD, DSc, was awarded to Ilmars Millers (Riga/Tallinn).
Additionally, DISTINCTIONS were awarded to:
Izabela Polakowska (Wrocław)
Marianna Majchrzak (Poznań)
Non-statutory awards were also presented:
PRIZE FOR THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF A CLAUDIO MONTE-VERDI WORK, funded by the Honorary Consul of Italy, Monika Kwiatosz, was awarded to Aleksander Humala (Minsk).
PRIZE FOR THE BEST POLISH PARTICIPANT OF THE TOURNAMENT, funded by the Department of Choral Studies and Ensemble Conducting, was awarded to Izabela Polakowska (Wrocław).
PRIZE NAMED AFTER ZYGMUNT GABRIEL URBANYI AWARD FOR THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF A COMPOSITION BY KAROL SZYMANOWSKI funded by prof. The Zofia Urbanyi-Krasnodębska Award went to Aleksander Humala (Minsk).
The COMPETITION CHOIRS PRIZE, funded and awarded by members of the competition choirs, went to Aleksander Humala (Minsk).
Three competition choirs participated in the ceremonious Laureates' Concert: the SENZA RIGORE Chamber Choir of the Academy of Music in Wrocław (art. director J. Szybalska-Matczak), the CONSONANZA Chamber Choir of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (art. director M. Kierska-Witczak), and the FEICHTINUM Choir of the Academy of Music in Wrocław (art. director J. Szybalska-Matczak, second conductor A. Wróbel).
