11th Student Scientific Conference "Ambiguity of Sound"
On May 6 and 7, 2025, the 11th Student Academic Conference "The Ambiguity of Sound" took place at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. This year's event, themed "Generational Diversity in Music," provided an opportunity for interdisciplinary reflection on the transmission of musical tradition, intergenerational relations in artistic education, and the evolution of musical language in the context of cultural change.
The conference, which has long been a significant element of our university's academic calendar, brought together students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers from various academic centers. Participants had the opportunity to present their research findings, exchange experiences, and establish new academic contacts. Numerous discussions and commentaries accompanied the meetings, allowing for deeper exploration of the issues under consideration and new perspectives.
A highlight of the program was a panel discussion featuring Prof. Leszek Wisłocki, Prof. Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, Prof. Marcin Bortnowski, and Dawid Grenda. The conversation allowed for a comparison of the experiences of different generations of artists and educators and a reflection on contemporary challenges in shaping musical identity.
The program also included a special lecture by Dr. Kinga Kiwała entitled "Polish Music of the Second Half of the 20th Century from a Generational Perspective," which provided valuable historical and analytical context to the conference theme.
An integral part of the conference were two Composition Concerts, during which Academy students took on the roles of composers, conductors, and performers. The Symphonic Composition Concert, broadcast live by Academic Radio LUZ, enabled the music of these young composers to reach a wide audience. These events showcased their full creative and performing potential and served as a vivid complement to the theoretical reflections accompanying the conference proceedings.
