MA Maciej Michaluk
introduction to computer composition
He completed his bachelor's degree in composition in the class of Dr. Artur Zagajewski, professor at the Academy of Music in Łódź. He then began his master's studies, which he completed in 2024, during which he explored issues related to the use of new media in contemporary music. He first continued his composition studies in the class of Prof. Cezary Duchnowski at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław (graduating with honours), and then undertook studies in music theory with Dr Andrzej Mądro at the Academy of Music in Krakow. During this period, he also took part in an Erasmus+ exchange programme at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where he studied under Anders Tveit.
His compositions have already been recognised at national and international competitions and festivals such as the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova, Audio Art Festival, Avant Art Festival and Musica Privata. He is a finalist of the 61st Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers and the International Competition for Intermedia Artwork (2022).
He seeks his own means of expression, which is why, in addition to electroacoustic works, he also composes pieces using stage gestures, new technologies and even sign language. He is open to collaboration, co-creating audiovisual works, installations, theatre and choreographic performances. In his recent work, he has been moving increasingly towards multimedia composition, focusing on the relationship between the analogue and the digital.
In addition to his strictly compositional activities, he is also active in the field of theory, writing articles for academic publications and national periodicals, while actively participating in conferences on contemporary musical culture.
He is the founder and long-time chairman of the New Media Art and Science Club at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. Since 2023, he has been a lecturer at his alma mater, where he introduces his own ideas on the theory and practice of computer composition and new media music.
He is a scholarship holder of the Academy of Music in Łódź, the Rector of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, the Rector of the Academy of Music in Krakow, the Academic Centre for Culture and Media at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, the Mayor of Biała Podlaska and the Marshal of the Lublin Province.
