Department of Music Education, Choral Music and Church Music
The Faculty of Music Education, Choral Singing and Church Music offers first- and second-cycle studies in two fields: artistic education in music and church music.
Field of study: artistic education in the field of musical arts
Depending on the chosen specialisation, students are prepared for future professional work requiring specialist qualifications, such as music teacher in general education, first-level music teacher, choirmaster, cultural animator and church musician. The knowledge, skills and social competences acquired during their studies enable graduates to take up jobs closely related to their field of study, but also provide them with the versatility to find attractive employment in almost any institution and sphere of musical life.
One of the overarching objectives of the educational concept in this field is to develop students' individual aptitudes, with a focus on training independent artists and educators who are able to realise their own artistic and pedagogical concepts. The foundation of this approach is the organisation of education using a master-student relationship, which fosters the cultivation and development of students' abilities, sensitivity and creativity.
Field of study: church music
This field of study prepares students to become professional church musicians in the Roman Catholic Church. The wide range of subjects offered develops the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a variety of tasks in their future work. These include liturgical accompaniment, organ improvisation, organ literature performance, conducting, Gregorian chant and liturgical singing. Graduates of the church music programme can take up positions in the most important church centres, serving as organists, cantor, conductor, cultural animator – a musician who will ensure a high level of musical culture in a given parish community through the professional performance of liturgical music and the organisation and performance of organ, choral and chamber concerts. A qualified teaching staff ensures a high level of education, and the knowledge gained is supplemented by symposia and workshops organised by the Department of Church Music and led by lecturers from various Polish and foreign centres. Numerous artistic events organised by the Department in Wrocław and Lower Silesia, as well as practical training in churches, provide opportunities to gain concert and liturgical experience.
