He graduated from the State Higher School of Music in Wrocław in the class of Professor Piotr Wołczuk. From 1970 to 1996 he served as principal horn of the Wrocław Opera Orchestra. He also held the position of principal horn with the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bydgoszcz and the Opole Philharmonic.
From 1974 to 2002 he collaborated with the Pro Musica Artistic Agency, performing throughout Europe. He has frequently served as a lecturer at music courses and as a juror in competitions.
He is the father of internationally acclaimed soprano Aleksandra Kurzak. He currently works as Senior Lecturer at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław.
