Born in Katowice into a family with musical traditions. He graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Primary and Secondary Music School in Opole, where he studied under Anna Hryniów-Kościów, MA, and Prof. Stanisław Firlej. In 2011, he graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Łódź in the class of Prof. Stanisław Firlej. Prof. Roberto Trainini also had a significant influence on his artistic development.
Krzysztof Karpeta's great passion is chamber music. He is the founder and member of the Polish Cello Quartet, the only cello quartet in Poland dedicated to performing works originally written for this ensemble. The quartet collaborates with outstanding musicians and composers from Poland and abroad. In 2008, together with Polish pianist Michał Rot, he founded the Reger Duo. In 2018, an album with works by Victoria Yagling was released. The recording made by the Reger Duo is the world premiere of these compositions. Both the Polish Cello Quartet and the Reger Duo have been very active in recent years in Poland and abroad, promoting little-known chamber works by various composers.
Krzysztof Karpeta is also the concertmaster of the cello section of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as Capella Cracoviensis, Wrocław Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum, Polish Baltic Philharmonic, Kalisz Philharmonic, Częstochowa Philharmonic, Podkarpackie Philharmonic in Rzeszów, Szczecin Philharmonic, Łódź Philharmonic, Lower Silesian Philharmonic, and Universitaet Orchester Mannheim.
As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with Bartłomiej Nizioł, Giovanni Sollima, Arto Noras, Mats Lidström, Kevin Kenner, José Gallardo, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Robert Kowalski, and Leszek Możdżer, among others. He has performed as a chamber musician in many important concert halls, such as the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, the NOSPR in Katowice, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
He regularly participates in numerous festivals, including Wratislavia Cantans, Chopin and His Europe, MurciArt Festival Murcia, Jazztopad, and Kammermusik Festival Schiermonnikoog. He has participated in recordings for CD Accord, DUX, Musicon, and Chandos.
As a teacher and chamber musician, he is regularly invited to conduct numerous masterclasses in Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Greece, among other countries.
Krzysztof Karpeta also develops his talent in the field of early music. Since 2007, he has been exploring the secrets of playing the viola da gamba and violone. Together with his wife, he forms the Fernabucco gamba duo, which won second prize at the International Early Music Competition in Żory in 2012. Collaborating with musicians such as Mark Caudle, Petr Wagner, Brent Wissick, Rolf Lislevand, and Marco Beasley, he has performed at many festivals, including Settembre in Musica in Italy, Forum Musicum, Wratislavia Cantans, the International Bach Festival in Świdnica, the International Ludwig van Beethoven Festival in Krakow, and Chopin and His Europe in Warsaw. As a gambist, he performs with renowned early music ensembles such as Holland Baroque, Il Giardino Armonico, Arte dei Suonatori, Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, and Orkiestra Historyczna {oh!}. Since 2018, the artist has also been performing Romantic music on original period instruments.
In 2019, two albums featuring the artist received the Fryderyk Award in the categories: Album of the Year, Early Music (Wrocław Baroque Ensemble) and Most Outstanding Recording of Polish Music (Kwartet Śląski/Polish Cello Quartet).
Since 2014, together with the Polish Cello Quartet, he has been organizing the International Cello Academy in Nysa every year. The Cello Academy brings together outstanding professors from around the world and a large group of young cello students, actively promoting chamber music written for cello ensembles.
In 2014, he received an award for outstanding achievements in the arts from the Jerzy Grotowski Scholarship Committee, operating as part of the Wrocław Scholarship Program. Krzysztof Karpeta obtained his doctorate in arts in 2017. The artist is a lecturer at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, where he teaches cello and chamber music. In the 2019/2020 academic year, he also collaborated with the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, teaching improvisation classes for cellists.
