A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London (in the class of Prof. Owen Murray), Musikene Centro Superior de Musica del Pais Vasco in San Sebastian (in the class of Iñaki Alberdi) and the Music Academy Karol Lipiński (in the accordion class of Dr. Zbigniew Łuca), in which he currently works as a professor. In September 2018 he obtained the title of habilitated doctor of music arts.
He gives concerts from an early age. Being only a 15-year-old musician, he appeared for the first time as a soloist with the Wrocław Philharmonic orchestra, and in May 2004 he performed with the orchestra in Malmö and Copenhagen. In January 2009 he made his debut in the London concert hall - Purcell Room. The Times diary described Rafał as "music much more mature than his age, which uses all the potential of his instrument."
During his studies in Great Britain, Rafał appeared in the most important concert halls, including In the famous church of St. Martin in the Fields, Barbican Center, King’s Place, Royal Albert Hall in London, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Colston Hall in Bristol; Several times in one of the most famous world rooms - Wigmore Hall as a finalist of the Young Concert Artists Trust and Patron’s Award competitions; Symphony Hall in Birmingham, performing a party of the accordion in the monumental work of Prokofiev - the canteen for the 20th anniversary of the October uprising under the baton of Valery Gergiev.
In April 2011 he made his debut in the United States in, among others Carnegie Hall, Weill Hall, and in June 2011 with the Korean cellist Hau-Eun Kim recorded the album with the works of Bach and Piazzolla, which was released by Universal Music.
With the Scottish altoviolist Ian Anderson, he creates a duo van Vliet, he is also a co -founder and a member of the complex of Propolex, who specializes in performing the latest music. He also cooperates with bands such as BBC SO, Royal Opera House, Aurora Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, Nash Ensemble, Chroma, Rambert Dance Company, Riot Ensemble, NFM NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic and Wrocław Opera, as well as composers over the new accordance repertoire. He performed at the most important festivals of the latest music, including: Warsaw Autumn, Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova, Poznań Spring, Sacrum Profanum, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Ostrava New Music Days.
For his outstanding achievements he was awarded the scholarships of the Wrocław Local Government, the Marshal's Office of Lower Silesia, the Silesian capable scholarship, the Crescendum Est Polonia Foundation, the Solti Foundation and he received a scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage four times. In January 2008 he became a laureate of the 5th edition of the Young Poland scholarship program.
He perfected his skills by participating in many master courses, among others: Friedrich Lips, Matti Rantanen, Mika Vayrynen, Claudio Jacomucci, Vojin Vasovic, Raimondas Sviackevicius, Joachim Pichura, Bogdan Dowlasz, Jerzy Jurek. He collaborated with many excellent conductors as a soloist and orchestral musician, including Valery Gergiev, Pierre-Andre Valade, Baldur Brönnimann, Lionel Bringuier, Christopher Austin, Mirga Gražnitė-Tyla, Łukasz Borowicz, Szymon Bywalec, Maciej Koczur.
In June 2015, his debut ACC ++ CA album with accordion and electronics songs was released by DUX. Two years later, in June 2017, Duo Van Vliet, Lachrymmae Revisited nominated for EMV Award for New Music Recording of the Year, was released by the New Music Scotland. At the beginning of 2020, Requiem Records published two more co -author's albums: Crossfade with a monographic album with the chamber songs of Cezary Duchnowski and Dualabilis, an album with accordion Polish music recorded together with Maciej Frąckiewicz. In the 2017/2018 artistic season, he was an artist-chairman of the New Music Orchestra in Katowice.
