He studied at the Academy of Music in Wrocław in the class of Prof. Bogdan Makal and at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden in the class of KS Prof. Olaf Bär. Since 2014, he has participated in the Young Talent Training Program - Opera Academy at the Grand Theatre - National Opera in Warsaw, where he worked under the supervision of Eytan Pessen. In 2016-2018, he was engaged by the Opera Studio at the Opéra de Lyon.
He made his debut in 2014 as Claudio in Handel's “Agrippina” at the Royal Theatre in Warsaw. He has also performed as Seneca in Monteverdi's “The Coronation of Poppea,” Salieri in Rimsky-Korsakov's “Mozart and Salieri,” Sarastro and Second Soldier in Mozart's “The Magic Flute,” Thomassini in Poniatowski's “Au travers du mur,” Commendatore in Mozart's “Don Giovanni,” Mozart, Ariodate in Handel's “Serse,” Fafner in Wagner's “Das Rheingold,” Second Soldier and Cappadocian in Strauss's “Salome,” Poins in Holst's “At the Boar's Head,” and Bartłomiej in Stefani's “Krakowiaki i Góraly.”
He is the winner of numerous awards at international and national competitions, including in Kiev, Wrocław, Suwałki, Gdańsk, Białystok, Druskininkai, Włoszakowice, Kaunas. He has participated in masterclasses with many outstanding artists, including Richard Cross, Andrzej Dobber, Jean-Paul Fouchécourt, Izabella Kłosińska, Tomasz Konieczny, Urszula Kryger, Matthias Rexroth, Neil Shicoff, and Teresa Żylis-Gara. The singer has received numerous scholarships from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the Mayor of Wrocław, and was the winner of the 2014 Student Nobel Prize.
The artist participates in international music festivals, including in Warsaw, Wrocław, Prague, Krakow, Bydgoszcz, Lyon, and Duszniki-Zdrój. He has performed bass parts in over 20 oratorios. He can also be heard at the Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw, the Royal Opera in Versailles, the opera houses in Lyon and Vichy, the National Theatre in Prague, and philharmonic halls in Nagoya, Lower Silesia, Opole, Silesia, and the National Forum of Music in Wrocław. He also collaborates with the Polish Radio Orchestra, the Radom Chamber Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestra in Zamość.
Paweł Kołodziej has collaborated with conductors such as Benjamin Bayl, Pierre Bleuse, Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, Łukasz Borowicz, Marzena Diakun, Heiko Mathias Förster, Jan Wincenty Hawel, Sébastien d'Hérin, Michiyoshi Inoue, Ekkehard Klemm, Kazimierz Kord, Andrzej Kosendiak, Przemysław Neumann, Piotr Staniszewski, Jiří Štrunc, and Andriy Yurkevych.
