Prof. Dr. Hab. Ewa Grygar
She is a graduate of two fields of study: music theory (1985) and music education (1988) at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. She completed Postgraduate Studies in Voice Emission and Postgraduate Choral Conducting Studies at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. In 1988 she began working as an assistant at her alma mater. In 1994 she obtained first-degree qualifications, and in 2009, by decision of the Faculty Council of Choral Conducting, Music Education, and Church Music of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, she received the degree of doctor habilitated in the artistic discipline of conducting. In 2024 she was awarded the title of professor of arts in the discipline of musical arts.

Between 2001 and 2006 she was the organizational and academic head (for the last two editions) of the Postgraduate Studies in Teaching Arts, Music, and School Art with Cultural Animation at the Faculty of Music Education of the Wrocław Academy of Music. From 1989 to 2006 she conducted the Study Choir (currently the Stanisław Krukowski Choir), with which she performed choral a cappella and vocal-instrumental repertoire. Other teaching activities include conducting, score reading, ear training, history of music and musical literature, methodology of group singing, as well as supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses. She participates in academic conferences, lectured at the National University of Music in Bucharest, and conducted classes at international folklore workshops in Belgium and the USA.

From 1992 to 2006 she was conductor and, since 1994, artistic director of the Representative Lower Silesian Song and Dance Ensemble “Wrocław,” with which she performed both in Poland and abroad (France, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Mexico, USA), participating in international folklore festivals. She continues to be involved in the amateur music movement. Since 2005 she has been conductor and artistic director of the Piastuny Chamber Choir (operating at the Piast Center for Socio-Cultural Activities in Wrocław), with which she performs in Poland and abroad, winning prizes and distinctions at choral festivals and competitions. Between 1989 and 1991 she collaborated with the Polish Theatre in Wrocław, serving as music director of the play Historia konia (“The Story of a Horse”). She also worked with the State Opera in Wrocław, where as choir director and conductor she prepared premieres of opera productions: Tosca, Der Freischütz, The Haunted Manor (revival), Samson and Delilah, Rigoletto. From 2010 to 2014 she collaborated with the Puppet Theatre in Wrocław, leading music classes for actors and a children’s choir. In 2011 she prepared the premiere of the musical play Pastorałka after Leon Schiller. Between 1994 and 2000 she taught theoretical subjects, choral ensembles, and orchestra at the State Music School of the First and Second Degree in Opole.

She has also collaborated with the project Śpiewający Wrocław (“Singing Wrocław”). She serves as a juror in choral competitions and reviews. During her professional work at the Academy she received three Rector’s Awards. She was also honored with the Gold Cross of Merit and the Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis. In 2016, for her contributions to Wrocław, she received the Honorary Badge of Wrocław Wratislavia Grato Animo.
