PhD Artur Lesicki

Guitarist, composer, Doctor of Musical Arts, lecturer at the Jazz Music Department of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław.

He was nominated for the Fryderyk Award 2016 (album Napiórkowski – Lesicki Celuloid). He performs in a variety of musical styles, primarily jazz, and has recorded around forty albums. Together with Marek Napiórkowski, he led the top Polish group Funky Groove, which was recognized by Jazz Forum magazine as the best electric jazz band in 2003 and 2004.

The group’s debut album, released by the international label PolyGram (now Universal), was included in the company’s worldwide catalog shortly after its Polish premiere. His own group’s album — Artur Lesicki Acoustic Harmony: An Unbelievable Silence — was recognized as the Best Jazz Release of 2004 by Gitara i Bas magazine.

Artur Lesicki has collaborated with many artists, including: Funky Groove (leader), Acoustic Harmony (leader), Krzysztof Kiljański, Gordon Haskell, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Urszula Dudziak, Krystyna Prońko, Katarzyna Groniec, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Wojciech Karolak, Tomasz Szukalski, as well as orchestras led by Tomek Szymuś, Krzysztof Herdzin, and Adam Sztaba. He has performed at all major Polish jazz festivals, as well as abroad, including Japan, China, France, Italy, Russia, Germany, and the Netherlands.

As a session musician, he has recorded theater and film music, including: the award-winning soundtrack by Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz for the film Papusza; big-band standards for Janusz Majewski’s film Excentrycy, czyli po słonecznej stronie ulicy (Eccentrics, or On the Sunny Side of the Street); music for the films of Waldemar Krzystek; and theatrical compositions by Leszek Możdżer.

He has participated in numerous television programs, including Dancing with the Stars, Fabryka Gwiazd, and as an orchestra member and soloist in the festivals Sopot Festival, Top Trendy, and the Polish Song Festival in Opole. With over 25 years of pedagogical experience, he has contributed to the education of a wide generation of professional guitarists successfully active on the music market.

A longtime lecturer at jazz workshops in Puławy, Blues nad Bobrem, and many others. Author of widely acclaimed educational multimedia materials — the two-part guitar school DVD Rzemiosło i sztuka (Craft and Art) and the book on chord playing Jak oni to robią (How They Do It). He is the creator of original jazz guitar curricula and has served as an expert in the work of the Central Examination Board (CEA).
