The Jazz Music Department educates students in jazz and stage music as part of first- and second-cycle studies, and the teaching staff consists of employees of the Jazz Music Department. Studies at the Jazz Music Department offer comprehensive development of students through the implementation of tasks in the areas of teaching, art, and scientific research. Classes ensure that students develop their performance, creative and interpretative skills. The educational process includes the improvement of technical and interpretative skills in the areas of instrumental, vocal or compositional and arranging, as well as the development of jazz improvisation skills. An important task in the teaching process is to enrich the repertoire and continuously improve the quality of students' artistic presentations.

Depending on the specific nature of the chosen field of study, the core subjects include classes in playing an instrument or singing, or composition and arrangement, improvisation, and chamber ensembles and big bands. The educational process is supplemented by a number of subjects that provide the necessary knowledge and improve practical skills. These include the history of jazz with literature, ear training with harmony, analysis of jazz standards, etc.

Most classes are held in the new part of the Academy campus in building D (entrance from Aleksandra Zelwerowicza Street), which houses seven studios equipped with the instruments, guitar and bass amplifiers and sound equipment necessary for classes and rehearsals. Students have access to the Audiovisual Technology Studio with modern recording studios.

The Jazz Music Department is intensively involved in artistic activities, continuing the best traditions of the Jazz Music Department, and previously the Jazz Music Department, founded by Prof. Aleksander Mazur. Students studying instrument playing and jazz vocals have the opportunity to perform in public during concerts organised by the faculty, including those featuring chamber ensembles or the AMKL Big Band. The organisation of composer concerts provides an opportunity to showcase the artistic achievements of students studying composition and arrangement. Participation in music festivals, concert series and performances during recitals by students and academic teachers are events aimed at shaping the creative attitudes of students.

An important form of artistic activity for students of jazz and stage music is the implementation of projects with the AMKL Big Band. The orchestra's rich history includes concerts at the headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, recitals preceding concerts by The Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra & Wynton Marsalis at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, as well as performances at many international festivals in Poland and abroad. The Wrocław academic jazz community remembers the workshops for the AMKL Big Band, led by renowned figures from the world of jazz, including Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Rampton and John Fedchock.

On the initiative of the Department of Jazz Music, seminars and performance workshops led by outstanding artists (Ron Carter, Gary Peacock, Bob Mintzer, John Fedchock, Richie Beirach, Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Billy Childs, Ernie Watts, Larry Koonse, Arnon Palty, Giuseppe Bassi, Tina Raymond, Ricardo Pinheiro, Rory Stuart), and extensive cooperation was established with other universities in Poland and abroad. Our lecturers perform on stages around the world, and our students win awards at numerous Polish and European competitions.
