Head of the Department of Jazz Music, double bassist, bass guitarist, composer, educator and promoter of musical life. Graduate of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław in the double bass class in two fields of study: classical music and jazz and popular music. For over 20 years, he has been performing, recording and collaborating with representatives of the Polish and European music scenes. He leads a trio co-created by pianist Adam Jarzmik and Piotr Budniak on drums. He is a member of the Zbigniew Lewandowski Quintet, as well as the Kuba Stankiewicz Trio. He co-creates the Piotr Rachoń Quartet, collaborates with trumpeter Piotr Schmidt, the Bartosz Pernal Big-Band, and vocalist – Justyna Szafran. In his artistic achievements, he has collaborated with such artists as, among others: Rory Stuart, Bob Mintzer, Caren Karroll, Rufus Reid, Carlos Piñana, Dante Luciani, Achille Succi, Anne Paceo, Nicolas Simion, Leszek Możdżer, Piotr Wojtasik, Piotr Schmidt, Paweł Tomaszewski, Krzysztof Kiljański, Piotr Baron, Grzegorz Nagórski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Tomasz Pruchnicki, Przemysław Jarosz, Kuba Stankiewicz, Agata Zubel, L.U.C., Zbigniew Lewandowski. He has collaborated with, among others, the Capitol Musical Theatre in Wrocław, the Polish Theatre in Wrocław and the National Forum of Music.
He has performed in Europe and Asia at such festivals as: Jazz Nad Odrą, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, Era Jazzu, Jazz Juniors, Cologne Jazz Night, Jazz Bez, Jazz Fest Brno, RCK Pro Jazz, Koskovo Jazz Festival, Musica Sacromontana, Green Town of Jazz or Przystanek Woodstock. In the years 2017-2022, he was the artistic director of the Bass & Beat Festival, an event combining various styles and multi-faceted presenting the sound of bass and beat as the foundations of contemporary music of various genres. Since 2022, he has been holding the position of the artistic director of the Krokus Jazz Festival.
From 2025, he serves as the President of the Polish Jazz Association Wrocław, where he is responsible, among others, for programming, implementation of artistic, educational and publishing projects. Jakub Olejnik combines his passion for music with teaching work at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, where he runs the jazz double bass and bass guitar class. From September 1, 2024, at the newly established Faculty of Jazz Music, he serves as the head of the Department.
He conducts jazz courses and workshops in Poland and abroad. He actively participates in conferences, symposia and seminars regarding the European cultural sector and the music industry.
He is in the process of proceedings for the award of the post-doctoral degree (doktor habilitowany). Selected discography:
