He graduated with honours from the Academy of Music in Wrocław in the class of Prof. Grzegorz Nagórski and studied at the University of Zielona Góra and the Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of jazz composition and arrangement under Prof. Jerzy Szymaniuk and Prof. Andrzej Zubek.

Bartosz Pernal is a laureate of many national and international jazz competitions, including:

Individual distinction at the 30th International Competition for Young Jazz Bands, Jazz Juniors in Krakow (2006)
Award for Best Band of the Festival for The Conception at the 2nd International Jazz Competition in Bucharest, Romania (2007)
First place in the solo category at the 3rd Tarnów International Jazz Contest in Tarnów (2010)
Grand Prix for Bartosz Pernal / Michał Szkil Quintet at the 4th Tarnów International Jazz Contest (2011);
Grand Prix at the Getxo Jazz Festival in Spain for Bartosz Pernal/Michał Szkil Quintet (2013);
Award for Best Band for Bartosz Pernal/Michał Szkil Quintet at the 16th National Review of Young Jazz and Blues Bands of the Gdynia Sax Club (2013);
Individual distinction for composition at the 49th International Jazz Nad Odrą Festival (2013);
Grand Prix at the 21st Big Band Festival in Nowy Tomyśl together with the Big Band of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław (2016).
He has performed at many festivals and music venues, including Jazz nad Odrą, Jazztopad, Game Music Festival, Green Town of Jazz, Novum Jazz Festival, Silesian Jazz Festival, Summer Fall Festival, Getxo Jazz Festival, Jazz Hoeilaart and RCK PRO Jazz Festival.

He has performed with outstanding Polish jazz musicians: Piotr Baron, Michał Urbaniak, Jan ‘Ptaszyn’ Wróblewski, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Krzysztof Herdzin, Cezary Konrad Henryk Miśkiewicz, Piotr Wojtasik, Maciej Sikała, Cezary Gadzina, Maurycy Wójciński, Tomasz Pruchnicki, Tomasz Wendt, Jakub Olejnik, Przemysław Jarosz, Zbigniew Lewandowski, Urszula Dudziak, Anna Serafińska, Kasia and Mika Urbaniak, Ewa Uryga, Stanisław Soyka and Janusz Szrom.

He has performed abroad with Anne Paceo, Jacqui Dankworth, Rosario Giuliani, Dante Luciani, Andy Middleton, Priscilla Jones and Andy Ninvalle, among others.

As a composer, arranger and conductor, he leads his own projects, regularly premiering works with both orchestral (Bartosz Pernal Orchestra) and chamber ensembles (Bartosz Pernal Sextet and Bartosz Pernal Quartet).
