Doctoral research area: Integration of broadly understood music production with traditional compositional techniques, reflected in the implementation of so-called special instruments—virtual instruments controlled via MIDI controllers—within a traditional symphony orchestra. The project takes the form of a three-movement symphony whose quasi-narrative content explores visions of the human being in the future.
Supervisor: Prof. Krystian Kiełb, PhD, DSc
Start of doctoral studies: 2022
Mid-term evaluation: 2023/24 — positive
“Within the topic I have chosen, I see two primary objectives. The first—on the level of developing compositional technique—is the pursuit of a kind of coherence between contemporary compositional tools that extend far beyond the traditional score-based craft. This includes music production, the ability to work with virtual instruments, as well as issues connected to acoustics and sound engineering. The second objective—on a cognitive, holistic level—is the completion of the symphonic trilogy Hominum, which thus far includes two works: the symphonic poem username: human, password: life for symphony orchestra and mixed choir, and the resurrection oratorio Misteria Paschalia for four soloists, mixed choir, and layered orchestra. These compositions constitute musical reflections on the human condition in the present and in the past. The First Symphony, which forms the subject of my doctoral dissertation, is a musical vision of the future.”
