"The factor that prompted me to reflect on Polish solo violin literature of the first half of the 20th century was my fascination with composers living in that period and their little-known artistic output. Solo sonatas by composers such as Arno Knapp, Paweł Kletzky, Roman Padlewski, Marceli Popławski, and Grażyna Bacewicz are almost completely omitted from the repertoire of contemporary performers and the programs of philharmonic institutions. An important issue in my considerations about the above-mentioned composers is the period of World War II, that is, the time when the works I am examining were created. In the written part, I will examine these works from a formal perspective and analyze the influences and inspirations coming from other composers. The historical and artistic context in which they – the solo sonatas – were created will also be important for me. Outlining and directing the analysis of the circumstances surrounding the creative process is, I believe, fundamental to understanding the musical layer and finding its appropriate interpretation. The culmination of my work will be making recordings of solo sonatas by the composers I am interested in and their presentation in the form of monographic concerts.”
