 Prof. Jerzy Zabłocki (1969-1981)

Born in 1928, died in 1991, he was a conductor, pedagogue, composer and music publicist. He graduated from the Faculty of Composition, Conducting and Music Theory at the State Higher School of Music in Wrocław, in the conducting class of Professor Adam Kopyciński (1955).

He worked at his alma mater from 1954 to 1981, conducting choir, symphony orchestra, instrumental and vocal ensembles, ensemble conducting methodology, conducting, instrumentation and score reading. At the university, he served as Vice-Chancellor (1966-1969), Rector (1969-1981) and Head of the Department of Conducting Ensembles (1973-1981). He was the conductor and artistic director of many choirs and orchestras, including the orchestra of the Wrocław Polish Radio Broadcasting Station (1953-1958) and the Representative Lower Silesian Song and Dance Ensemble ‘Wrocław’ (1954-1972, 1980-1981). He was also associated with the Wrocław Operetta (in 1959-1962 as conductor, and in 1961-1962 as artistic director) and the Wrocław Opera (as conductor in 1970-1977). He was a guest conductor with the orchestras of many Polish philharmonics. He was also active in the amateur choral movement and published articles and methodical manuals on conducting. After leaving Wrocław, in the last ten years of his life, he worked as a professor at the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz and Warsaw.
