On 6–7 December 2024, the National Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference ‘Who is an artist? Faces of artistic identity in the modern world’ took place. Below are some photos from the event.

The idea for this thematic area stems from the need to take action to address the identity dilemmas faced by young artists. The disturbing phenomenon of increasing fear of social exposure, identity confusion and an unstable sense of meaning in being an artist, which can be observed today, is a contribution to in-depth scientific reflection.

The project includes presentations by representatives of the scientific community, artistic circles and business, as well as workshops aimed at young artists.

The thematic scope of the participants' presentations included, among others:

Identity as a multifaceted issue.

The faces of the artist in the light of scientific research.

The development of artistic identity in the experience of representatives of various fields of art (music, visual arts, acting, dance and others).

The sense of meaning of being an artist in scientific reflection.

Shaping artistic identity among young people.

Art therapy and artistic identity in communities of people with disabilities.

The conference programme included lectures, presentations and workshops. We wanted to look at the topic of artistic identity from different perspectives: that of a pupil, student, teacher, professional artist and entrepreneur with an artistic soul.

During the conference, Random Check Media Ensemble (RCME) presented Immersion, an interactive audiovisual installation that is a small part of a much larger multimedia project called Matching Components, which premiered at the 67th Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music.

Immersion is a type of audiovisual instrument controlled by precise hand gestures. More about RCME and other projects: https://randomcheck.asp.wroc.pl
