prof. dr hab. Marta Kierska-Witczak

Graduate of music academies in Wrocław (with distinction, 1990) and Bydgoszcz; professor of musical arts (2011). Head of the Department of Church Music at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. Juror of many international and national music competitions. Since 2008 she has been director of the International Choral Conducting Competition Towards Polyphony (W STRONĘ POLIFONII), and since 2014 she has chaired its jury.

She has collaborated with ensembles at numerous European universities in Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Croatia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, and Lithuania, as well as with various choirs in Wrocław, with which she has won dozens of prizes and distinctions—both ensemble and individual—at Polish and European festivals and competitions. From 1993 to 2015 she was Artistic Director of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology Chamber Choir Consonanza, with which she led several hundred concerts featuring a wide-ranging repertoire—from medieval monody to contemporary vocal-instrumental forms; she also took part in many music festivals and competitions (Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, France, North Macedonia, Germany, Portugal, Hungary, United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium, France) and made numerous recordings. Alumni of her choirs perform on professional stages in Poland, Europe, and the United States.

She is a member of the Polish Section of AISGre, serves on program and scientific boards of music associations, and works in the governing bodies of the Association of Polish Church Musicians. She is deeply engaged in raising the standard of liturgical music—annually initiating specialist conferences and workshops, conducting ensembles, launching concert series and festivals, training young conductors and organists, and reviving forgotten works of musical literature preserved in monasteries of historic Silesia. She is the author of numerous articles, particularly in the field of choral performance, as well as editor of several publications devoted to sacred music.

From 2020 to 2024, Prof. Dr. Hab. Marta Kierska-Witczak served as Director of the Doctoral School.
