mgr Magdalena Wiącek
Musicologist, Librarian, and Director of the Library of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław
A graduate of Musicology at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and of Postgraduate Studies in Information Science and Library Science at the University of Wrocław.
Since 1989, she has been employed at the Library of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, and since September 2009 she has served as Director of the Library.
She is the author of scholarly articles on music librarianship and numerous biographical entries in the PWM Encyclopedia edited by Elżbieta Dziębowska, the publication Polish Composers 1918–2000 edited by Marek Podhajski, and the Encyclopedia of Wrocław.
In the early 1990s, she collaborated with the editorial team of the programme books of the International Festival “Wratislavia Cantans.”
She has presented papers at conferences of music librarians, organized by music academies and by the Section of Music Libraries of the Polish Librarians’ Association (Polish National Branch of IAML), as well as at academic conferences hosted by the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, the University of Wrocław, the Wrocław University of Economics, and the Wrocław Librarians’ Association.
Since 1997, she has been active in the Polish Librarians’ Association (SBP), Wrocław Branch — since 2004 as Chair of the Audit Committee. Between 2009 and 2017 she was a member of the Board of the Section of Music Libraries of SBP, and in the 2017–2022 term she served as Vice-Chair of the Board of the Section of Music Libraries – Polish National Branch of IAML.
In the 2022–2025 term, she serves as Chair of the Board of this Section.
She has been awarded the Gold Medal for Long Service by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Polish Librarians’ Association Medal “In Recognition”, and is a laureate of the Mayor of Wrocław’s Award.
