The core responsibilities of the Symphonic and Opera Conducting Department include developing, implementing, and supervising a comprehensive curriculum for the conducting program. The Department is composed of distinguished conductors and pedagogues with recognized artistic authority, who ensure the application of the most effective and engaging teaching methods and formats. Classes are conducted not only with the support of outstanding accompanists collaborating with the Department, but also with a specially established training orchestra, with which students may work from their first year of study. As part of orchestral practice, students are also offered ongoing cooperation with the Symphony Orchestra of the Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra and the Symphony Orchestra of the Józef Wiłkomirski Sudeten Philharmonic in Wałbrzych. Long-standing close collaboration with these ensembles, under the supervision of Department faculty, provides students with valuable opportunities to develop rehearsal techniques and build individual working relationships with musicians while shaping their own artistic interpretations. The conducting studies conclude with diploma concerts performed with AMKL orchestras and professional Polish philharmonic orchestras.
The Symphonic and Opera Conducting Department is the initiator of numerous master courses led by renowned conductors such as Maestro Tadeusz Strugała, Maestro Gabriel Chmura, and Maestro Jerzy Maksymiuk. The Conducting Artistic and Research Student Circle, active within the Department, regularly organizes meetings with guest conductors visiting Wrocław and supports student-centered artistic initiatives.
Responding to the needs and expectations of students from music universities across Poland, in 2013 the Department launched its flagship initiative — the National Adam Kopyciński Conducting Students Competition — now held every three years. It is the only competition of its kind in Poland dedicated to young conducting students, and its program and organizational structure, modeled on leading professional conducting competitions, has received broad recognition and approval.
All activities and initiatives undertaken by the Department and its members are aimed at providing students with the widest possible range of knowledge, practical skills, and professional and social competencies, with the goal of supporting their future conducting achievements.
