Section of Ear Training and Musical Imagination
The unit was established as a result of the transformation of the Ear Training and Musical Imagination Studio, whose establishment in 2015 was the culmination of many years of work, initially in the field of ear training teaching methods, and then in ear training and musical imagination. The Section conducts research and artistic work related to innovative methods of teaching ear training and the development of musical imagination in the education of musicians of all specialisations, both in primary and secondary education, as well as in higher music education. The aim of the Section is to develop research and teaching in the areas under its supervision. The starting point for the research is a modern approach to issues of musical perception, taking into account both the aspect of auditory reception of sound based on audiation and analytical activities, as well as the specificity of psychological conditions.
This trend is also reflected in the teaching activities of the Section. Among the numerous projects organised, co-organised or supported in recent years by people currently associated with the Section, with a view to developing its substantive form, the following initiatives are particularly noteworthy: the organisation of a series of Hearing Olympics, the creation of a proprietary computer programme supporting ‘hearing training’ – PAKS Private Hearing Education Assistant, organisation of the mYear Musical Imagination Festival, organisation of a competition for methodological ideas for teachers, adaptation and implementation of an e -learning system for ear training classes, including the original portal poniedzialki.pl for Academy students, establishing close cooperation with the Centre for Art School Teacher Education (CENSA), participation in external conferences – presenting directions for change in ear training teaching at universities and lower levels of music education, intensification of cooperation with the Intercollegiate Chair of Ear Training at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, dissemination of ‘single work sheets’ as a tool for the holistic perception of musical works, and regular testing of students' competences for modern, professional evaluation.
The Section has its own room equipped with the latest equipment, including single-person computer stations (laptops for individual work) and a lecturer's station. An e-learning platform based on the Moodle system is being implemented.
